We were on a country road that we had
never been on before. The road we
were on was blacktopped, slightly going
uphill for about a mile. At the top of the
hill was a four-way with no stop signs.
We went straight, which transitioned
into gravel and went downhill after the
intersection. I lost control and hit an

I was ejected out of the car because we were not
wearing our seatbelts. I was told that I was lucky that I
was not wearing my seatbelt because I was 6'2" at the
time and would have more than likely been injured
worse or not even be here. I was found 96' from where
my car stopped rolling. I fractured my left shin, broke
my left femur, left collarbone, both jaws, palate of my
mouth, top six front teeth, cracked skull, traumatic brain
injury, and vertebrae C5, C6, and C7, leaving me
paralyzed from my neckdown. I was taken by
ambulance to a local hospital and was then life-lined
to Eskenazi. I was there for 30 days and was then
taken to RHI to do rehab for 29 days, totaling 59 days
away from home.

Mason the Prom King >>
Howdy, my name is Mason Ellis and I live in
Southern Indiana. At the age of 17 and a half,
only having my driver's license for one year, I
was operating a 2005 Mitsubishi Montero
(Mini SUV) and was involved in a serious
vehicle accident on January 19, 2015. A
friend was with me and who luckily did not
sustain as many injuries as myself and is
back to normal by now.
I was still able to graduate from high school with an
Academic Honors diploma. Since then, I have taken
college classes through Vincennes University and
started a YouTube channel, helping others like
myself. You can check out my YouTube channel
God, family, and friends, in
that order, has gotten me
through this situation.
Believe it or not, I enjoy life
way more now than I did
pre-injury. I believe it is
because this injury put a lot
of things into perspective. I
view life a lot differently now
and am a better person.
